Sponsored by the Extension Gardener Travel Study Adventure program, this trip includes special tours of several magnificent gardens in Vancouver and Victoria British Columbia that are on the Bucket List of many gardeners.

Destinations include:
Travel is a unique immersion experience, engaging all your senses in a learning opportunity that expands your perspective, knowledge, and network. We offer horticultural educational travel study programs focusing on plants, insects, animals, ecology, biodiversity, geography, history, and horticulture production.

While you can read about plants and ecosystems, nothing compares to the benefit of direct experience. Seeing plants in their native habitat provides a better appreciation for how and why they grow the way they do and an opportunity to compare the ways plants (and animals) adapt to various environmental constraints. These travel-study adventures help us understand not only the ecology of other habitats but also provide insights into growing plants at home.

Dr. Jeana Myers

In addition to local expert guides every step of the way, Dr. Jeana Myers will host this adventure.  Dr. Myers is a Ph.D. soil scientist with over 30 years of experience in organic fruit and vegetable gardening, She served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Zaire and as a consumer horticulture agent in Wake County, NC (the Raleigh metropolitan area) where she directed the Extension Master Gardener℠ Volunteer Program of Wake County.

She has provided leadership on the Carolina Farm Stewardship Board, and the Parks, Recreation and Greenways Advisory Board, and has taken advantage of a variety of other opportunities to promote and support local sustainable food production. She is an expert in permaculture garden design and her garden has been featured in books, magazines, television shows, radio broadcasts, podcasts, and more as an excellent example of beautiful, simple, functional elegance. She is joyful, fascinating, and fun, and is one of the best reasons for going on this trip!!

$3,985 Registration includes:
  • lodging,
  • most meals

We offer small-group, boutique tours with an emphasis on unique accommodations and visits to places that are not open to larger groups. While it is less expensive to take 50 people on a tour, it is an entirely different experience, limited to public gardens, restaurants, and hotels that can handle large crowds. Our tours typically accommodate fewer than 20 people and sometimes fewer than 15.
