Courses and Registration Info
Houseplants, Succulents, and Cacti: Identification and Use
Have you ever wondered what the holes in a Swiss-cheese-plant leaf are called, and why they’re there? Did you know that there are cacti in tropical rainforests? How do you tell the difference between a Thanksgiving cactus and a Christmas Cactus? These species are some of the most unique and fascinating in the plant kingdom and have a botanical vocabulary all their own.
Trees, Shrubs, and Conifers: Identification and Use
We’ve selected 45 popular species of trees, shrubs, and conifers commonly seen in the landscape to help you build your ID skills and botanical vocabulary. Soon you’ll be saying “I know that one!” when you’re walking in your neighborhood or hiking in the forest. This class will also teach you about living fossils, conifers that lose their leaves in the fall, and trees with knees!
Understanding Plants
Increase your botanical knowledge through a study of leaves, stems, flowers, and fruits. Look in detail at the methods and terminology used to describe plants throughout the seasons. Gain an understanding of the botanical system of plant names and how the plant kingdom is organized. This course covers important “groundwork” for anyone hoping to become a better botanist!
