This fully online, asynchronous course is part of a series of Garden and Landscape Courses offered by The North Carolina State University Department of Horticultural Science.

This is NOT an Extension Master Gardener℠ certification course. If you are interested in becoming a Master Gardener volunteer please contact the Extension Master Gardener Coordinator in your county for information on training requirements and volunteer opportunities.

Each course in the series includes:

  • Interactive forums,
  • Hands-on activities,
  • Presentations by experts around the state

You can complete the courses on your own schedule during the 6-week period and you will have access to the course material forever!

Topics Covered:

  • Vegetable Gardening: garden types and techniques, garden organization, 4-season veggie production, succession, seeds, transplants, irrigation, weed, and pest management, harvesting considerations
  • Organic Gardening: principles of organic gardening, fertility management, cover crops, green manure, organic weed control, organic insect and disease control, record keeping
  • Small Fruit Production: strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, blueberries, grapes, kiwis
  • Tree Fruit and Nuts Production: site selection, tree selection, planting, nutrient management, mulching, pruning, and training, fruit thinning, pest management, and harvest tips

Students will learn techniques and insights that will help them become experts in the garden and landscape.

Complete all 5 courses and Earn a Garden and Landscape  
Certificate of Mastery from the NC State Department of Horticultural Science.
