Longwood Gardens, one of the premier public gardens in the world, partnered with NC State University Department of Horticultural Science to provide this unique introduction to plants.

About the Class

Discover a collection of garden favorites that will add a burst of color and texture to your landscape while learning the fundamentals of plant ID! This fully online, self-paced class features popular annuals, perennials, vines, and groundcovers that can be grown nationwide. Through online fact pages, flashcards, vocabulary games, mystery plants, and hundreds of beautiful images, you will learn the key identifying characteristics of these plants and how to use them in the landscape while gaining the skills to identify other plants you encounter outside the class.

This is a fully online, self-paced, non-credit course. You can participate anywhere that you have access to the internet. You will have access to the course resources 24/7 for a year after you register. There are no required presentations or set times you will need to meet online. We recommend accessing the course via Google Chrome on a computer or tablet for the best functionality.

Please note that no completion certificates are offered for the self-study classes, and no credit is given toward Longwood’s certifications.
