Getting the Picture Just Got Easier

(Updated: Aug. 21, 2025, 9:54 a.m.)

The curated collection of plant images is just one of the many useful features on the Extension Gardener Plant Toolbox, and downloading those images for use in garden signs, blogs and presentations just got easier.

Thanks to Extension IT specialist Jason Young, the Plant Toolbox now has an embedded Image Downloader. You'll see the "Download Image" button under every photo. When you click the button, the image is saved with a file name that is created from the alt text, caption, photographer and CC license.

The file name for the image at right is "Large oval leaves with silvery variegation. Goeppertia picturata. Foliage. Rafael Ferro CC BY-NC 4.0.jpeg." The file name is long, but it has all the relevant information (the metadata) that you need to use the photo in compliance with the CC license. Learn more about CC licenses here.
